Getting Started

Please read MESSAGE below before beginning
"With Interlibrary Loans, we borrow material
from other libraries on your behalf".

If the material you seek is an Article follow the steps for Column I, for a Book and other type, follow steps for Column II

(click on the link for each step needed to obtain a brief tutorial with pictorial instructions)

Unfortuately, however, the tutorials will not be completed until January 2, 2007!!!!

The basic sequence for these steps is 1.), 2.),3). If you can't find the material in Step 1.), then try to find it in Step 2.); if you can not find it in Step2.), use Step3.) to get a blank request form and make a request for the library to find the item for you. Of course, if you succeed in finding the material you need in Step 1.) proceed to locate it in NVCC Library by its call number(Books) or positon in a database(Articles)

1.) Make sure your article is not in NVCC library (see instructions) 1.) Determine if your book,etc. is not at NVCC library
2.) If article is not at NVCC, use reQuest to find it and request it online 2.) If not, use reQuest to find it and request it online
3.) If you could not find the article owner on reQuest, use a blank request form from the reQuest database. To get to a Blank form, click on Patron Menu, click on 3.) If material is not in reQuest, use a blank request form form from the reQuest database.
Tip: Uncheck the reQuest Main Catalog box , and check the reQuest Serials box; enter the title of the journal in the search box, and press Enter. Tip: Do not uncheck the reQuest Main Catalog box for this search, enter the title, and press Enter.

To use Interlibrary Loan Services Online

Before proceeding, be sure you meet the following criteria:

  • You must be a student, faculty or staff member of NVCC.
  • You must have a library card.
  • You must have available a computer with an internet connection.
  • Be sure to check NVCC's library catalog( NVCC catalog) to make sure the book, video, or other material is not in our collection.
  • Check the Serials Solutions database to see if a journal or other periodical article is not available in our collection (link above: Full Text Collection).
  • If the material sought is not in the NVCC collection, then you may proceed with your request; otherwise, your must obtain the material from the NVCC library. If you need help, see the librarian on duty or call 203-575-8244 for assistance.
