Your Network Share and Mapping Drives

NVCC's NetworkThe Naugatuck Valley CC campus is completely networked, with network connections in all offices and classrooms. There are approximately 900 computers and 80 printers available on the network, plus remote access capability. The local area network is connected to a wide area network, providing Internet access to all computers connected to the campus network.
PasswordsAccess to computing resources are granted via USERNAME and PASSWORD combinations. NVCC users will need at least 2 USERNAME/PASSWORD combinations:
Usernames and Passwords work as pairs, just like locks and keys. To get USERNAMES and PASSWORDS for these resources, please apply in E604 or use Electronic Helpdesk from the Department of Information Technology web page. An Online form is available as well.
Electronic MailNVCC runs an Exchange e- mail server. Any faculty or staff member may have an account. Faculty are urged to use e-mail to communicate with their students. Microsoft Outlook is available to use on faculty and staff computers. Faculty and staff members should apply for an e-mail account in E604 or use Electronic Helpdesk from the our web page. Logging onto NVCC NetworkWhen you power up a PC in your office or in an Instructional Area you will be presented with the following:
The Username box should be filled in with the Network Username provided by the Department of Information Technology. The Password box should be filled in with the Network Password. The Domain box should read "NVCTC". Student Computing areas use the room number, i.e., K615, as the Username with a Password of "STUDENT".
Your "J: Drive" and Drive MappingNetworks provide opportunity for shared resources. Network servers provide additional data storage. At NVCC, all faculty and staff members have personal space on the
server. It is referenced as J: for each user. Users can use this
as additional file space or if they
wish the security of an additional copy of a document.
Remote AccessNVCC maintains a remote access server for staff to connect to the NVCC network from home via phone lines. Staff members are responsible for their own configurations; however,
the *following document* is provided
for their assistance.
Web Pages for FacultyNVCC has a Web Server for Course Webs. Faculty who wish to publish pages should send a request via the *Helpdesk* and include username, password, course reference number and Course ID (i.e., Math100). Faculty who need assistance creating pages should request training
via Helpdesk.
TrainingNVCC offers ongoing training for staff in many subjects including Windows98 and 2000, Banner (Administrative Software), word processing (MSWord), MSPowerPoint and Web Page Creation. This training is announced via the *Department of Information Technology Newsletter*, which is distributed via e-mail. Faculty and staff members who would like to request a training session should do so via *HelpDesk*. In addition, check out the current schedule of PC
Core Competency Training Program classes. The PCCC is a
system-funded program which provides technology training classes at no cost
to Connecticut community college faculty and staff. PCCC classes
include the Windows operating system, the Microsoft Office applications
(Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Internet and HTML/Web Design classes, and
BANNER-related learning labs.
Requesting AssistanceRequests for Assistance should also be submitted via *HelpDesk*. These
requests become part of a database. Our IT staff normally respond to requests in the
database on a same-day basis.
