How to Update Norton AntiVirus V5.0                   

 After opening the icon on the system tray, click on the LiveUpdate button.  This will open a window with a selection box that will say Virus Protection update.  At the bottom of the window is a box showing where the live update server is located, either Internet or Network.  Click Next.  A window will open indicating the LiveUpdate is in progress.

The computer will retrieve or download some files from the Internet if your Virus definitions are out of date.  When the updates are downloaded, a window will appear showing "Windows Virus Protection Updated", then click Finish.  Close the Norton AntiVirus Window by clicking on the "X" in the top right corner.

Note:  You must close the program in order for the updates to be applied.

Reopen the program by double-clicking the Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect Enabled icon in the system tray (bottom right hand corner).  The program should show a date of 11/30/00 or even more recent.

In order to find the LoveBug virus, please do the following.  Check to see how Options are set in Norton AntiVirus by clicking on the Options button.  In the section "Files Types to Scan" select "Scan All Files".  Click Ok.

Now check for any new viruses by clicking or selecting all hard drives.  Then click on "Scan Now".  Wait patiently as the software scans your hard drive.  Then close the program.

If the computer finds any viruses, then please submit a Helpdesk for assistance to clean up any problems found.
