Y2K Issues at NVCC
They involve: 1)
Global American PC's, purchased 2 years ago for use
in F220 and K612, along with some office users, need to have the BIOS
upgraded. Even though the CT Dept of
Information Technology "patched" the BIOS for Y2K turnover, the
patch did not work. If you use a
Global American PC, we will be visiting your office to make the changes. 2)
Accuplacer software in the Testing Center was
upgraded to a new version that was advertised as Y2K compliant - and it
turned out that it was not. A
"patch" was applied to help in reporting test results for the
proper dates. As indicated by the news media, the turn of the century
was relatively uneventful. However,
anyone in IT knows that the beginning of the first work week of the new year
was the real test of Y2K issues. The
first week of January involved some long hours of problem solving. Hopefully Y2K issues will soon become a
thing of the past, something we can tell our grandkids about . . . What is considered proper use of your school's e-mail
account with respect to personal e-mail?
Are you permitted to use this account to send and receive personal

Are you interested in participating in computer-based
training? (Computer-based training is
provided on computers in our training area.
This is software that can be customized to address specific areas of
applications that you may need help in.)
Our department is evaluating the merits of CBT software
for staff and faculty. We're looking
for 3-5 volunteers to help us access the strengths and weaknesses of such a
program. You will be asked to
volunteer 1 to 2 hours of your time to try out the software and then complete
an evaluation form. Please call 8173
and leave a message with J. Beetz.
Thanks.
