What is the Journal locator?
The Journal Locator is a service developed for libraries by a company called SerialsSolutions and made available to the libraries by paid subscription.
What does the Journal Locator do?
The Journal Locator
tells you:
which journals NVCC Library subscribes to in full text electronic format
and in print,
what years are covered electronically and in print, and
in which database(s) or where in the Library you can find these full
text journals.
The Journal Locator includes select print holdings. For complete information
on the Library holdings, search our Library
Catalog.
Journal Locator is best used if you have a particular journal in mind already
and need to find the full text of its articles. If you have a subject in mind
and are interested in finding journal articles, it is best to use one of our
Article
Indexes or Databases first..
When you have information
about an article, SerialsSolutions Locator will allow you to search for the
title of the periodical to see if it is available in our electronic or paper
collection.
SerialsSolutions Locator will not search for articles on a topic. It will merely
suggest full-text titles based on the subject that you select. This is the purpose
of the subject browse search.
How do I use the Journal Locator?
When you type a periodical title into the SerialsSolutions search box, you will be given information about the source(s) of full text and the years available. Note that the link from the title will usually lead to a listing of the specific issues of the journal in the database you select. You may be able to select a specific issue of the journal from a list. However, you may be presented with a list of articles in the journal (most recent first); or you may see other information which requires you to provide additional inquiry parameters. This variation is due to differences in how the individual databases are set up.
Ask library staff for assistance in using this or any other Library service.
